Member Spotlight: Tricia McIntosh

Before she was guiding Canadians through home financing, Tricia McIntosh was the calm voice on the other end of a 911 call, serving the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a dispatcher and operator for roughly a decade.

In 2010, she decided to step into the mortgage industry, originally imagining brokering as a good part-time option that would complement her husband’s work.

“When I started, mortgage brokering seemed like a flexible part-time option that would work well with my husband’s career,” Tricia tells CMBA-BC. “Over time, it naturally grew into far more than I ever expected: a busy and rewarding full-time career.”

More than 15 years later, Tricia is busier than ever. A CMBA-BC board member since 2023, she serves the association’s 1,200+ members through advocacy and her work on the membership committee.

Of course, brokering itself keeps her schedule full, too. After learning the ins and outs of the industry, Tricia added mentoring and leadership to her role. In 2020, she began leading and mentoring a team of brokers — a path that evolved further in April 2025, when she partnered with fellow brokers Sarah Strauss and Debora Seehuber to establish The Mortgage House, Canada’s first female-led national independent mortgage company.

The CMBA-BC recently had the pleasure of catching up with Tricia to learn more about her history with the association, hear her top BC travel destination, and find out how she recharges after a busy week.

1. How long have you been a member of CMBA-BC?

I joined the association in 2012 at the direction of my broker-owner at the time. He explained how important it was to be part of the association that advocates for brokers, and he was absolutely right. I’ve been proud to be a member ever since.

2. What’s a skill you’ve always wanted to learn?

I’ve always wanted to learn to play an instrument. I love music, and I’m still obsessed with ‘90s and early 2000s grunge and hard rock. I actually dabbled in drums for a bit (it runs in the family!) before work and life took over.

3. What was the first concert you ever attended?

My first concert was Our Lady Peace at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver back in 1995 when they were a newer band. Great memory!

4. What’s your top travel destination in BC?

Right now, I’d say Tofino. I was very lucky to be part of the Strive Tofino trip with an amazing group of brokers and the Strive team, which made me fall in love with the area even more.

5. What’s your go-to way to unwind and recharge after a busy week?

Hanging out at home with my family — that’s my favourite way to reset after a long week. I’m definitely a homebody!
