Code of Conduct for In-Person Events

The Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association – British Columbia (CMBA-BC) is committed to fostering a professional, inclusive, and respectful environment at all our events, including conferences, networking sessions, educational events, and social gatherings.

By attending an event hosted by CMBA-BC, all participants—including attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, staff, and service providers—agree to abide by this Code of Conduct, which aligns with our Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

1. Professionalism and Respect

All event participants must:

  • Treat fellow attendees, speakers, exhibitors, staff, and service providers with courtesy, professionalism, and respect.
  • Refrain from making false, malicious, or defamatory statements about any individual or organization.
  • Foster an atmosphere of constructive discussion and collaboration, even when engaging in professional debate.

2. Zero Tolerance for Harassment, Discrimination, and Violence

CMBA-BC has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or violence at our events. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Bullying and harassment, whether verbal, written, or physical, that intimidates, threatens, or humiliates another person.
  • Sexual harassment, including unwelcome sexual advances, inappropriate touching, suggestive comments, or sexist remarks.
  • Discrimination based on protected characteristics under the B.C. Human Rights Code, including race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, and age.

If you experience or witness a violation of this policy, please report it to event staff or contact ceo@cmbabc.ca. Reports will be handled confidentially and investigated following the principles of procedural fairness.

3. Responsible Conduct in All Event Spaces

  • Respect event venues, staff, and property.
  • Adhere to event policies, including session etiquette, appropriate behavior at networking events, and professional use of exhibition spaces.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour, including excessive intoxication or conduct that interferes with the event experience of others.

4. Photography, Video, and Media Consent

CMBA-BC may capture photographs, video, and audio recordings at our events for promotional, educational, and archival purposes. By attending an event, you:

  • Acknowledge and agree that your image, likeness, and voice may be recorded and used in event materials, publications, and digital platforms.
  • Understand that CMBA-BC retains all rights to these materials and will not provide compensation for their use.
  • If you have concerns about being recorded, please contact event staff upon arrival.

5. Consequences of Violations

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • A verbal or written warning.
  • Removal from the event without refund.
  • Referral to CMBA-BC’s disciplinary process, including potential suspension or revocation of membership where applicable.

By attending an event hosted by CMBA-BC, you acknowledge and agree to abide by these principles, ensuring a safe, professional, and engaging environment for all participants.
