Member Spotlight: Hamasa Shir-Mohammad

For Vancouver-based mortgage specialist Hamasa Shir-Mohammad, the path to brokering was as much about freedom as it was about purpose. A member of the City Wide Mortgage Services team, Hamasa brings a unique blend of mobility, empathy, and precision to her work.

“Being able to do this job from anywhere in the world — as long as I have my phone, my laptop, and an internet connection — just made sense to me,” she tells CMBA-BC of why she pursued mortgage brokering. “I’m an avid traveller, so this career path totally fits my lifestyle.”

Of course, Hamasa’s story isn’t just about flexibility; it’s about impact. Whether guiding first-time buyers or supporting seasoned investors, she considers the role she plays in her clients’ journey as a privilege, taking an approach that’s rooted in clarity, compassion, and a deep understanding of the mortgage landscape.

“I consider it an honour to be able to help my clients with one of the most important financial decisions of their lives,” Hamasa says.

The CMBA-BC recently had the pleasure of catching up with Hamasa to chat about her travel bucket list, get a book recommendation, and discover why the support of loved ones is so invaluable when it comes to success.

1. How long have you been a member of CMBA-BC?

A year-and-a-half. You get discounted rates for events and sometimes even join them for free. It only makes sense to join the CMBA-BC. I don’t see any cons — only pros.

2. What’s a skill you’ve always wanted to learn?

Learn to fly a plane ✈️

3. What is the next location on your travel bucket list?

Scuba diving in Egypt!

4. What was the last book you read?

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter.

5. Who was your biggest champion or supporter early in your career? How did that impact you?

My parents, especially my mom. Ever since I was a little girl, she had engrained it in us to never give up. If the word “resilience” was a person, then it would be my mom. When the thought of quitting crosses my mind, there’s a little voice inside my head that yells, “Momma didn’t raise no quitter. Keep going!” She’s my rock and I am so incredibly proud to be her daughter.

I wouldn’t be where I am without the support from my family.

Thank you, Hamasa, for taking the time to chat with us! If you know a CMBA-BC member who you think should be spotlighted in this column, please contact Samantha at samantha.ashenhurst@cmbabc.ca.
