Member Spotlight: Christian Amurao

Christian Amurao’s approach to mortgage brokering is as personal as it is professional. As the founder and team lead of the Open Doors Mortgage Team, he leads a group of dedicated mortgage professionals serving clients across the Lower Mainland.

Fluent in both Tagalog and English, Christian has built a reputation for serving diverse communities, with a special focus on supporting newcomers as they establish roots in Canada. He also authors a regular blog on the Open Doors Mortgage Team website, providing insights for clients on financing, renewals, mortgage types, and more.

“Brokering allows me to help people, especially new immigrants, own their own home,” Christian tells CMBA-BC. “It’s a fulfilling and lucrative business to be in.”

The CMBA-BC recently had the pleasure of catching up with Christian to learn more about his history with the association and get some top-notch Vancouver restaurant recommendations.

1. How long have you been a member of CMBA-BC?

It feels like I’ve been a member since 2004 or 2005, though there might be some gap years in there. I joined the association to be able to accelerate my growth as a mortgage broker. This allows me to stay informed in the industry and meet like-minded individuals.

2. What’s a skill you’ve always wanted to learn?

Play the piano.

3. What’s your favourite local restaurant?

This is a tough one, as I do enjoy trying different restaurants. To name a few: Kumare, Ramen Danbo, Hy’s Steakhouse, and Tasty BBQ.

4. What book are you currently reading?

The audiobook Don’t Believe Everything You Think by Joseph Nguyen.

5. What’s your go-to way to unwind and recharge after a busy week?

Playing golf.
