After getting his start in the technology industry, Lowell Harding switched careers in 2007 and became a licensed mortgage broker. Today, he’s busy in Kelowna, working with both Verico Compass Mortgage Group and as vice-president of broker-agent relationships at Tango Financial.
At the 2024 CMBA-BC Conference and Trade Show, he received the MB Individual Partner Recognition, celebrating an individual member whose commitment and energy has benefitted the growth of the association.
“Receiving the award was truly an honour,” Lowell says. “I believe we’re fortunate to be part of such an amazing industry and I encourage everyone to give back. CMBA-BC plays a vital role in advocating for and supporting brokers, so contributing to that effort is an easy decision.”
The CMBA-BC recently caught up with Lowell to have a chat and find out more about his life and career.
- Why did you pursue mortgage brokering?
I was commuting 1.5 hours each way as an IT specialist when my then father-in-law, Joe Ferreiro — still one of the best brokers I’ve ever worked with — suggested I join him in the mortgage industry. I haven’t looked back since.
- What’s a skill you’ve always wanted to learn?
How to fly an airplane.
- What’s your top travel destination in BC?
Eugene Resort in Cranbrook, B.C. Great golf and a casino — what more could you ask for?
- What book are you currently reading/What podcast are you enjoying?
I prefer conversation over reading and podcasts, but, occasionally, I’ll listen to a fantasy novel while I swim. - What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Just be happy.” Realizing that happiness is a choice — and that you are in control of your own — can be incredibly freeing.
Thank you, Lowell, for taking the time to chat with us! If you know a CMBA-BC member who should be spotlighted in this column, please contact Samantha at samantha.ashenhurst@cmbabc.ca.
