True that FINTRAC has indicated to us that while the requirements apply as of October 11, 2024, they are allowing for a transition period for all to come into compliance. Whether or not you have already taken steps to come into compliance, this session will provide valuable information for you to consider in conducting your business.
The essential question this session addresses is, “What is a mortgage broker, lender, or administrator to do, in a very practical sense, to comply with FINTRAC’s requirements?”
There is ample material out there explaining FINTRAC’s requirements, but very little providing practical suggestions as to how compliance is to be achieved. Greg Dent will explain the five pillars of a FINTRAC compliance program and provide practical suggestions as to how to comply with each pillar:
Pillar #1 Appointment of Compliance Officer – What criteria do you need to consider? What criteria should you consider? How do you appoint the person?
Pillar #2 Risk Assessment – What are some categories you will want to consider? What are some examples/best practices of control measures that are appropriate for mortgage entities to adopt?
Pillar #3 Policy and Procedure Manuals – What should the manual look like? What chapters/topics should you incorporate into your documentation?
Pillar #4 Training – What are some effective techniques for small and medium sized businesses? What are some pitfalls that are frequently encountered and you should avoid when delivering training?
Pillar #5 Effectiveness Review – How is it done effectively? What are the advantages of doing it properly?
Greg will greatly elaborate upon these matters during this informative two-hour session.
